RPT IT dicussion (and more)

Chamber Content – free discussion

Roxayne: noted high quality of service from HighPoint computers discussed Twitter and whether it is a serious business tool. John mentioned that it is a tool for opening discussion and can be used to link to a website. Also benefits of TweetDeck to follow broader concepts.

Barry: mentions LinkedIn.

Tom: raises concept of a challenge to generate, within 6 months, a lead for each other member of the group.

John: Notes that Bondi Chamber have commenced the Peer Advantage Group which appears to mirror the Hills RPT groups. Mentions e-cademy. John is also hunting for a tender writer.

David: Mentions the benefits of mBox. www.mbox.com.au which allows you to have incoming faxes go straight to email. You can alos use other services of mBox to filter messages in and out, and also to fax out.

Barry: www.box.net A similar website. Also www.yousendit.com which allows you to centrally store large files so that multiple persons can download with suitable password protection. Fee based site.

New Chamber theme of an open discussion forum – nothing new for Team Nexus though - “I’d like to say, I’d like to ask ...”.

• we assume our target audiences know what we do (Bill) • we should spend more time getting our 30 second commercials right and more focused on what we do/offer
• make the 30 sec ad or ‘elevator pitch’ more personal (John)
• people buy from people so they are interested in you as well as your business
• problem customers who are also friends: what do we do with them? (Peter M)
• group suggested charging more for these types of clients so they value the service or free advice you might give or being upfront and saying that you value their ‘friendship’and the ‘business side’ was having an effect on this.
• a proposal to Ulysses from John had taken four weeks as John wanted to get it 110% rightdiscussed presenting the proposal earlier and having an open discussion around it
•Jacinta mentioned that she had a rule of getting proposals out the same day as the meeting and then discussing them further with the client
• a problem with the lack of young people entering the insurance arena so experience could be passed on (Les)
• group suggestions on work experience or traineeships
• RPT group is great for referring clients and has produced good results (Peter K)
• There’s no formula for business building generally to follow, just have to go out and find your customers etc (Paul)
• You need the tools for your business but also need to realise that you need the human know-how to apply those tools (Mike)

During the meeting the team had a great discussion on the use of technology for their respective activities. There was a good robust discussion on savings on the reduction in total system costs by use of technology and this was supported by the processes MS is implementing for CHIPS plumbing.

The group discussed the items they wanted to share and questions that they needed some assistance with.

Great referrals were gained for VOIP, Telesales
Great understanding was gained from IIBE digital technology initiatives
Some information about becoming an RTO was exchanged
JH suggested a Reversal of the 30Sec commercial to allow gauging the groups understanding of each others businesses.
