We have recently been notified of a scam by FindLaw Australia. The FindLaw website says:
Warning of email scams impersonating ASIC and ATO

ASIC has warned the public against acting upon an email claiming to be from "Barbara DuFrene", the purported Chairman of ASIC, and the ATO. ASIC says the email, which claims that recipients are entitled to receive a tax refund by clicking on a link provided, is a scam and recipients should immediately delete it.
In addition, ASIC has been made aware of phone calls claiming to be from ASIC with an automated service seeking payment for ASIC fees. ASIC said these calls are not from it and that ASIC does not use automated services to collect payments. People can report scams by calling ASIC on 1300 300 630.
