I've just had a look at the system we use internally to support our clients and 38% of those computers are still running Windows XP. Recently I also received an email from Microsoft reminding us that they will no longer be providing updates - including security updates - after April 2014 for both Windows XP and Office 2003.
Windows XP has been an amazingly stable operating system but along with Office 2003, its now over a decade old. Now I know the analogy doesn't translate precisely, but are you still using a 10 year old mobile phone??? With less than a year before Microsoft ceases updating XP and Office 2003 its time to start thinking about replacing those five year old computers before the hardware fails and/or the software its running begins to reduce the productivity of your staff.
With the end of financial year approaching, leading hardware brands (our favourite is HP) have a number of
PC specials running at the moment and the new version of Office - Office 2013 - has just been released. And for companies with a turnover of less than $2 million, the full cost of this computer can be expensed this financial year (no depreciation schedules to worry about!).
